Abstract
The dynamic development of artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the world of work, presenting trade unions with new challenges. During this presentation, I will present the results of a preliminary study on the recognition of practices in the use of various technologies in trade union organizing – popular tools, circumstances, and their strategic use. I will present the results of an analysis of existing data and qualitative research conducted with people involved in the trade union movement. The interviews focused on identifying both the challenges and potential benefits of implementing new technologies – both in the workplace and in union activities, taking into account the specific needs of diverse employee groups. Based on the 3C method (context, class, community) proposed by Jen Schradie (2020) for studying union organizing in a technological context, I will refer to the intersectional dimension of the issues discussed, taking into account the context of the work environment, the class dimension, and various forms of organizing. In conclusion, I will present conclusions on how trade unions can use new technologies to create more inclusive organizing strategies, as well as how they can counteract digital forms of precarization and increasing control over work.
